Hello

Welcome to Visually, a rich source of information about eyes and vision, eye health, and what you can do to help people with eye problems.

The Visually team from Moorfields Eye Hospital run workshops for 11-18 year olds at schools and online. We hope that you will like what you see, and that you might want to give some of your time and join our team of Young Volunteers.

What is the Visually Workshop ?

The Visually workshop wants to tell young people about how vision works and how to become a volunteer in an eye clinic – or online! In the workshops, you can learn about common eye problems, and what people who work in an eye clinic do There are loads of different roles!

We can bring the workshop to your school, or we can run it as an interactive online workshop. You can also find all the resources on this website - and more! This is a great place to learn about eyes, and you can also tell people in your family how to look after their eyes!

Why Visually?

Visually is the only resource written specifically for 11-18 year olds. A whole team of different eye care professionals, volunteers and media specialists have worked together to create this resource. This is the place to find out more about our “windows to the world”, how you can make a difference for people with poor vision or blindness. Maybe this will be your first step towards a career in the NHS or in research!

What do young Volunteers do?

We have loads of opportunities – you can help adults and elderly people when they come to the eye clinic, particularly with using our digital resources. Or you can join one of our Young People’s groups – we have one that gives researchers advice on their projects, and one that gives the hospital advice on how to run clinics for children and young people.

About Moorfields Eye Hospital

Moorfields is a hospital just for eye and vision problems. That makes us unique! Most hospitals have an eye clinic, but also have departments for other problems. We specialise in eye problems. Our biggest site is in central London, and we also run eye clinics within many other hospitals all over London, and as far north as Bedford!

An eye clinic usually has several different services: for problems at the front of the eye, at the back of the eye, eye movement issues, eyelid problems, and a service for children. We use a lot of modern technology to examine the eyes and to do eye surgery.
