Contact the Friends of Moorfields by calling 020 7251 1240 or send an email saying that you are interested to moorfields.friends@nhs.net
The Friends team will have meet up with you to explain the roles and application process. We will also give you a Volunteer Agreement to complete.
Fill in the Volunteer Agreement and email it back to the Friends. They will pass it onto Moorfields Human Resources department, who’ll help you complete any checks you may need to do to become an official Moorfields Volunteer.
Fill in the form and email it to moorfields.friends@visually.org.uk
Once all the checks are completed, the Friends team will be in touch to arrange your start date.

People have different reasons, aims, plans etc. when deciding to start to be a volunteer. My reason was that I was inspired by all the work the NHS was doing during the pandemic. I was very proud when I got the position, it felt great to be motivated to help others and to help yourself at the same time. Moorfields has given me the opportunity to do training, gain skills and knowledge. I have volunteered in various roles including phone support, hand-holding in surgery and recently administration in the A&E department. It feels great when someone looks at you with a genuine smile and thanks you for your help. Volunteering has benefitted me a lot, and after applying for positions here I have secured employment with Moorfields. I am very happy that I started to volunteer at Moorfields. It is giving me a lot, and I am very happy and enthusiastic when I am here.
I’ve been volunteering at MEH for the last 2 years.
I’ve been volunteering at MEH for the last 2 years. My current role is helping at the front desk, manning the main entrance of the hospital. Me and the other volunteers support patients by managing the queues and escorting them to their clinics. We are a great team that work closely together to ensure that patients have the best possible experience. Volunteering at Moorfields has also given me the experience in a clinical setting which will be essential for me starting my Nursing degree. Please come and join for an exciting experience and a great team.

We have been volunteering for 6 months at Moorfields. Our role is to support the front desk which includes helping patients get to their appointments on time and directing them. We really enjoy volunteering because we have family that are patients of Moorfields, and we want to give back.

I Volunteer in the Children’s A&E, and help people with their appointments, giving them the paperwork and signposting patients. It is a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone, as it gives me hospital experience and helps me work on my communication skills. Everyone here at Moorfields are such great people to be around – they are ever so friendly and helpful. I love spending my Wednesday here helping with Friends.

I usually volunteer at the Children’s A&E and front reception. I also sometimes marshal along the corridors, guiding patients to their clinics. The atmosphere at Moorfields is very friendly and welcoming, the staff always say hi on their way past and the patients are appreciative of what we do. Volunteering here is very stimulating and makes me feel good to be able to help those that need it.

The Friends of Moorfields are indeed very friendly. The people here are lovely, and you’re always learning something new. I think the experience you get from volunteering here is amazing in itself, whether or not you want to work in a hospital or healthcare setting in the future. It is only a minimum of 3 hours a week so it’s not a lot of time taken out of your free time and you can try out different areas so it doesn’t have to be a set location within the hospital. Overall, it’s amazing I’d definitely recommend.
You can help adults and elderly people when they come to the eye clinic, particularly with using our digital resources. Or you can join one of our Young People’s groups – we have one that gives researchers advice on their projects, and one that gives the hospital advice on how to run clinics for children and young people.
